Rotavirus Vaccine for Children’s Diarrhea: The Great Equalizer

Rotavirus  is the known to be the primary cause of diarrhea globally and rotavirus diarrhea is the third leading disease to cause death in children worldwide. It is inevitable even in first world countries, which makes it all the more alarming most especially to countries having less resources to fight the dreaded disease. Luckily for the Filipino people whose administration’s aim is to significantly reduce infant mortality rate through rotavirus vaccination. In fact, the Philippines is the first Southeast Asian country to provide it for free through its national immunization programs. It is given in two (2) doses for infants, 0-6 months old. To start educating the grass roots level, the Department of Health in Region XI (Philippines), specifically in Davao City  in coordination with ROTAPhil and some healthcare providers, sponsored a media briefing in Cafe Laguna @ the Abreeza Mall of Davao City last October.  The main speaker was Dr. Juliet Sio-Aguilar, a […]

Online And Mobile Convenience With Globe Gcash

Now that a lot of businesses sell their goods and services online, ways and means have been innovated to make the lives of sellers and their customers much easier. And we are not just talking about big time businesses here. As we know, there are already thousands (and counting!) of active online sellers sprawling across social media networks most especially in Facebook and Multiply. From lesser known pre-loved stuff (slightly used/vintage clothing and other re-usable items) sellers to famous multinational brands, they all share same goal now, and that is to capture their target market with their attractive social media presence. One way to maintain a steady online following is by being flexible enough to accept various modes of payment. These include bank deposits and many types of money transfers. But I noticed that all this time, Globe Telecom’s Gcash, as a mode of transferring cash has become more popular […]

Ipanema’s Urban Fashion Jungle Event Wows Davao Fashionistas

Ipanema‘s mystical creatures and Davao’s fashion animals converged in a night of glamour and majestic mystery unfolded at the Urban Jungle Fashion Show in Abreeza Mall, Davao City last Friday, October 12. Ipanema’s latest flipflops collection were artistically presented in a jungle-inspired fashion show, showcasing bold prints and vibrant colors set to  capture the wild side of both men and women. My eyes feasted on an hour’s worth of graceful movements to showcase the new flipflops in their splendid glory. I bet Ipanema fans present during the event were already contemplating of adding a pair or two to their collection. The show was presented by Ipanema Philippines, in coordination by Bambu Ventures, Inc ( dealer of  our favorite Brazilian footwears: Ipanema, Grendha and Rider )led by owner/President Mr. Patxi Elizalde. It was such an experience to be part of the digital media to cover the event. Cheers to more exciting events […]

When Steroids Become Life Savers

Today, my eldest son’s school nurse called me up and informed me that I needed to bring him to the doctor since she can hear a lot of wheezing from his chest, and he was coughing unstoppably. Upon hearing these,  I had to inform my workmates that I needed to take a few hours off from work to bring Lean Raphael to a pulmonologist ASAP.  He has been coughing for days now and only had carbocisteine and cough expectorant to relieve him plus the eucalyptus oil massage that we apply on his chest and back. Today, it developed into a bad asthma attack. Ughh. It must be the dust and smoke that got the best of him and his tired lungs, even if he nebulized himself this morning. Ok, so, what struck me most during our consultation with the accommodating lady doctor, was when she mentioned that my son needed to take some […]

Blog Weekend Bootcamp: A Homecoming of Sorts

In the past months, I have always seen Davao Bloggers’ activities in my FB newsfeed and there is this constant wish of mine to be part of the group. However, I noticed most of the bloggers I see in the event photos are younger than me, and geez, I might feel way out of their league so I just kept on lurking. Good thing, one of the officers/organizers, Karla, informed me about the Blogger Weekend Bootcamp (held on Sept 21-23, 2012) and reassured me that there are also mommies like me who actively blog and are frequent attendees in local blogger events. See, I started writing since highschool and that’s like ages ago. And for the past few years, my job online has been focused on editing articles, SEO (search engine optimization) building, customer support, and the like. Although I have a personal blog here and I had another one […]

The Internet: Adding Pizzaz for A More Colorful World

Indeed, the internet has paved the way for the unthinkable. No one in our forefathers must have imagined that life would be as fast-paced and dynamic as the kind we are having today in this age of computers and world wide web a.k.a the internet. Everything under the sun seems to be possible with a few clicks of a mouse , keyboard or even a few buttons of a smartphone. Creative juices abound and are free to flow for improved lifestyle and better human structures. Most of these lead to progress, while others merely see this as forms of expression. Thinking about it, I can see a lot of promising things coming. There is pressure, I know, but I’d rather be excited than feel scary. I am so looking for what the future of technology brings. I can’t wait. (For a more vivid presentation of how internet has changed the […]

When Mafia Wars Don’t Make A Killing Anymore

It is that feeling when games would feel like a chore and a job. I did feel like that when I quit the game a few months ago. I even forgot what month was that because it was no longer exciting, or at least that’s what I felt about it that time. Quests were getting stressful to fulfill and help was hard to get from fellow mafia members. Talk about a big deal,  I could hear non-mafia players say. And so I made the ‘big’ decision, removed the games from my Apps and blocked it so I would not be able to see games posts on my feed. I was able to breathe again, focus on my work more, and do more chores at home.  At the back of my mind, I thought I’d miss the game I’ve played for about 2 years. But I didn’t.  I knew it was […]
