After 15 Years and 10 Stores: Blugre Coffee Goes Global

1998 was a memorable year for me. It was the start of my life as a young mom when I gave birth to my eldest child August of this year. Well, I am not going to talk about motherhood in this post, but just the fact that while I was busy building a home and starting a family, I realized that this homegrown coffee shop has been a part of it as well. Blugre Coffee was also born in 1998. It came when coffee shops weren’t the “in” thing yet. In fact, I can say that it paved the way for the other coffee shops to open in Davao City. They have specially become a hit too since they introduced a locally concocted blend, the Durian-flavored cappuccino. Back then, while the city was still building itself economically, I would always delight at the thought of new restaurants and shops coming […]

Globe Prepaid’s GoSAKTO Create Your Own Promo

The current competition between local telecom companies to catch attention from their subscribers has become stiff, that it often leaves me confused in differentiating the promotions they offer each time. Unlimited text messaging, unlimited calls, unlimited browsing, all day in Facebook, Twitter or what have you. How many texts was that again and for how many days? And what about texts and calls for other networks?? Good luck to my memory. And please, don’t ask me the text codes to send and the corresponding numbers to send these codes to. I am THAT bad in memorizing them. Chances are, it is not just me who has this kind of dilemma. Good thing, Globe Prepaid has introduced a unique way of allowing us subscribers to create our own prepaid promo called GoSAKTO Create Your Own Promo. With this, Globe prepaid subscribers will now have the freedom to choose and create a […]

The Apo View Hotel: Soaring To New Heights at 65

You don’t need to be a historian to say that one of the pillars of Davao’s thriving tourism industry is The Apo View Hotel. Over the years, it has stood amidst the challenges of the times and reinvented itself to continually cater to its patrons and to the increasing number of tourists coming in to Davao. The Apo View specially takes pride in its employees who serve as its backbone in providing guests with world class experience that is truly and distinctively from Davao. On March 23, as it celebrates its 65th year, the Apo View Hotel gives back to its industry partners, clients and friends as a way of thanksgiving. As a […]

The Philippine Madrigal Singers Seranades Davao As They Go For Gold

I had a rare opportunity to sit at the front row to watch The Philippine Madrigal Singers live last March 6 at SM Lanang Premier here in Davao City. They were here as part of their Goin’ For Gold Outreach Tour in line with their 50th Anniversary. Back then, I could only hear and watch in the news that they have been doing stellar shows here and abroad, bringing accolades for the country. Watching them perform live is indeed a different story. Every song and every performance is sang flawlessly well. And boy, they were entertaining too! For those who think that classical and traditional music is bland and boring, well, think again. Aside from their repertoire of Filipino novelty and traditional music, they also impressed the younger generation when they sang their version of a current local hit, “Pusong Bato” ( revived by the Kulaog band in 2012). They […]

JCI Philippines’ Liter of Light Project

Filipinos are well-known  for their creativity and ingenuity. Tough times bring out resourcefulness to create useful things we never thought would be possible. I was simply amazed and genuinely proud (knowing that this was a brainchild of a kababayan) when I saw a feature of this on TV : a portion of an empty PET liter bottle filled with a mixture of chlorine/salt/filtered water, and installed by a scrap GI sheet, rubber sealant and rivets would brighten peoples’ homes at maximum cost of P5o each per Solar Liter bulb. For people living below the poverty line, the improvised Solar Liter Bottles provide great impact to their lifestyle. This would mean so much for those who cannot afford to buy conventional bulbs and fluorescent lights that needed to be replaced on a regular basis. For what used to be dark kitchen, dining or living rooms, will now radiate with  hopeful  “liters” […]

If you are a person on the go who relies so much with communication technology to undertake daily activities, there’s no better news than having these things updated to keep up with the rest of the world.  Whether we like it or not, internet and  telecommunication have also become like common staples we couldn’t live without.  You wouldn’t be surprised that even at the most casual gathering of friends and  formal business meetings,  there’s only one thing that people would ask first— WIFI PASSWORD!!!   So when Globe Telecom invited us bloggers for a round table discussion to share their latest updates on network modernization all over the country especially in key areas in Mindanao last November 22 at the Royal Mandaya Hotel, I wasn’t surprised  but somehow felt excited because after all this is the ideal direction we would want for our local telecommunication industry to have. We now […]

SM Lanang Premier Brings Flash Mob Ala Gangnam Style

I have never experienced to see a flash mob live in front of me until this interesting event sponsored by SM Lanang Premierlast November 3. I went there, together with there other bloggers and we were only told to cover a special surprise event. Totally clueless about a flash mob coming along, we just waited by the fountain court stair steps with the thick crowd usually present on a regular weekend day. Little did we know that around 200 girls and boys from various dance groups in Davao were scattered around the area preparing for their little surprise. To everyone’s amazement, the familiar tune of the most played song in YouTube history ever, Oppa Gangnam Style sung by Psy started to envelop the crowd. In a minute, a mob of dancers were lined up in formation right before the delighted audience. Children of all ages, including us, watched with glee, […]
